Hospital bag essentials

As the day you’ll meet your baby approaches, you’ll want to prepare well in advance the belongings you’ll want to take with you to the hospital to make you’re stay is comfortable. It’s advised that expecting parents prepare at around 37 weeks as after that mark your baby is considered full term.

For the mother

  • Tooth paste

  • Tooth brush

  • Deodorant

  • Wash cloth

  • Shower gel

  • Hair brush

  • Hair band

  • Lotion

  • Lip balm

  • Robe

  • Comfortable socks

  • Flip flops or slippers

  • Towel

  • Underwear - As many as you can bring, as you’ll have some postpartum bleeding (Lochia) so you may have to change regularly

  • Nursing bra - Although many women don’t start producing milk until. 3 days postpartum. The support of a nursing bra may be desired in comparison to a regular bra.

  • Going home outfit - Having the option of two outfits maybe best. We recommend having one “feel good” outfit and one lounge outfit so you can decide you’re mood on the day.

  • Maternity notes

  • Birth plan

  • Makeup bag

  • T-shirts

  • Card/cash - Having both options as you may want a snack from a vending machine or need to get a taxi home etc.

  • Phone

  • Phone charger

  • Snacks

  • Water bottle

  • Book/magazine

  • Tablet or laptop

  • Journel and pen

  • Mirror

  • Maternity pads - A fresh full pack will come in hand

  • Jacket/ jumper

  • Trainers

  • Socks

For baby

  • Car seat

  • Sleep suits - x6, A few that are a newborn size as well as 0-3 month sizes

  • Vests - x6, Also have a nice range of newborn and 0-3 month old vests as your baby may be bigger or smaller than expected

  • Hat - x3/4

  • Mittens

  • Nappies - Have a varied size range between size 0 and size 1,

  • Wipes - x1

  • Nappy cream

  • Muslin clothes - x3

  • Pramsuit/jacket

  • Blanket

For birthing partner

You may also want to bring some things for your birth partner, e.g.

  • Snacks and drinks

  • Comfortable clothes e.g. hoodie, jogger bottoms, t shirt and shorts

  • Pyjamas

  • Change of underwear

  • Toothbrush

  • Toothpaste

  • Deodorant

  • Shampoo

  • Conditioner, and any other toiletries you use on a daily basis.

  • Moisturiser/ any skincare you use

  • Travel pillow

  • Blanket

  • Phone and charger

  • Reading material: bring a book or magazine to read. This can help pass the time and relax you.
